What is La Galgada?


La Galgada is a site in Peru dating from as early as 3000 BC to as late as 1700 BC with firm dates from 2400 BC to 1900 BC.  It is part of the larger Andean highland tradition named the Kotosh Religious Tradition and was also part of a period named the Late Archaic or Cotton Preceramic dating 3000 BC through 1800 BC.  La Galgada lies in the Northern Part of Peru in the Andean mountain chain some 1000 meters above sea level.  Not only was it in the highlands, but was only 80 kilometers from the ocean and 80 kilometers from the Amazon.  Aspero lies approximately 250 kilometers to the south.
